Turning Concepts into Reality

Mogden Sewage Treatment Works Upgrade, Thames Water

Infrastructure upgrade of Thames Water’s Mogden Sewage Treatment Works in West London, a £66M project modernizing a 55-hectare facility serving 2.1M people. Design and build of new treatment tanks, upgraded existing systems, and integrated sustainable energy generation to boost capacity and compliance. Working in a densely populated urban area near Twickenham Stadium posed challenges, as did maintaining operations during construction.

Modern methods of construction such as hydraulic modelling, using precise scheduling and innovative techniques to minimize disruption. The project increased sewage processing capacity, reduced environmental risks, and strengthened the infrastructure networks for Thames Water, delivering a resilient asset for London’s growing population.

Isle of Grain Power Station – District Heating Network, E.ON

Installation of a £19M district heating network at E.ON’s Isle of Grain Power Station in Kent, connecting the 1,275 MW Combined Heat and Power facility to a nearby LNG terminal. The project involved excavating and installing insulated pipework to deliver 340 MW of thermal energy. Unforeseen underground obstacles and strict environmental regulations in the Thames/Medway estuary complicated execution. Tender terms resolved a cost dispute, while rigorous environmental practices ensured compliance. Through commercial compliance and robust record keeping were vital in achieving a key result for the customer. The network enhanced energy efficiency, cut carbon emissions, and supported E.ON’s sustainability goals, reinforcing expertise in energy infrastructure.

St. Bartholomew’s Square District Heating Network, E.ON

Delivered a £33M underground district heating network for E.ON at Bart Square, a mixed-use development in central London. The project installed insulated pipes to supply low-carbon heating and cooling to residential and commercial buildings. Excavating in London’s congested urban environment and encountering unexpected obstructions created challenges. Precise planning minimized disruption, and a 2018 court ruling upheld a robust contractual dispute, avoiding liability for unforeseen costs. The efficient system reduced carbon emissions, met stringent city standards, and enhanced Bart Square’s sustainability, solidifying the customers reputation in urban utility projects.

Curzon Street HS2 Station Construction, HS2 Ltd

An advanced a £570M project to build Birmingham’s Curzon Street Station, a net-zero carbon HS2 terminus. Early works included site clearance, archaeological investigations, and earthworks for a 100,000 m² site. Urban complexity, historic railway roundhouse discoveries, and sustainability goals presented challenges.

The customer collaborated with Birmingham City Council and used emission-free machinery to address these, preserving heritage while reducing emissions. By 2023, preparatory works enabled piling for 2024, creating 1,000+ jobs, boosting regeneration, and positioning the station as a sustainable rail hub for the West Midlands.
